I forgot to tell news that I have at work been given more to do...and it seems they are going easier on me instead of just giving me help as infrequently as possible from the others and then griping my backside out for "being too slow." In fact I just had another evaluation and was told that I improved but unfortunately there wasn't any raise mentioned. At least it wasn't like "These things are still at the same levels and you're still quite slow even after we told you to pick up the speed."
So now I have back just about the stuff that I was doing at my old employers. The only thing the same so far is doing the pizza sauce...I also learned how to mix the ranch dressing and drain the salad and wash the eggs to store them.
The broadband front....I think I screwed up the networking b/c it was fine but then I loaded the PDF of the Comstar sourcebook in Acrobat Reader 5 while chatting with Shymk (someone I know from FCF that's no longer on there) and went out and came back and noticed that I couldn't move the mouse around anywhere...so I waited like a minute or so and it still wouldn't move, so I thought that it could be locked up...I even did CNTL-ALT-DEL and that didn't work so I flicked the switch on the power strip and rebooted. Then I went to reload the PDF and discovered the network connections were GONE...mysteriously they were gone from the old computer but strangely I can still access the broadband through the router. Also then I would be able to access the old computer with the new one...but now neither one can access the other.
I don't think mom described it to Uncle Wayne easy...b/c he sent back instructions on how to check the ZoneAlarm settings to get each computer into each other's trusted sites but then I did and they list each other....
I don't even know how to check to see the IP addys....
Oh and another complication. When Uncle Wayne set everything up he also set up passwords on the Win98 on the old computer....when I went to log in after the power strip reboot (after the freeze) I tried to log in and it won't take my password, I'm sure that I was typing in the password, I even tried all variations.... it's a two part proper name with a space in between (I would have known if I used a hyphen or underscore for a space), and I used all low caps, cap first letters, pluralized the name, singled the name...nothing worked...so I had to make a new login for the old computer.
Also there's difficulty with using both...mom even had me get a timer to use especially since we both now spend so much time back here on both computers on the internet since we can now get on without waiting on the other though she'd still have to wait on me when I'm using a program that couldn't be loaded on the old computer due to OS and RAM memory limitations.
For instance I even tried to set up a boot disk to boot into Hikarunix on the old computer but since I bought it in 1999 or 98.... I guess the RAM was not enough and the Knoppix wouldn't load right.
Also I do have a feeling that Magic Online wouldn't work on the old computer in Win98....Black and White probably won't but it wouldn't hurt to try.... and I don't want to bother saving my Juno mail, porting it over to the old computer, loading it, getting my mail from there, then backing it up again and porting it back...ridiculous. So yeah there would be times when I would use the Dell still.
But mom is a different story since she has trifocals and the old computer has a CRT monitor with glass in it and on the old desk the monitor sits higher than the flatscreen LCD the Dell has and she not only would prefer the faster speed this one has, but she wouldn't want to tilt her head back to read through the glare...
So anyway that's all the news.
To end this one, I got an ending for my posts that I'll start using...in the spirit of others that I've seen using endings like 2dreamsilently
In Vino Veritas!
