The day after was quite to play some Battletech w/ my nephew for the first time but didn't do the RP part of it b/c he was on a "level 2" for this week....the part w/ the minatures would be considered a board game even though the maps are paper instead of cardboard....technically it could go both ways since it's on a playing field that's flat on a tabletop w/ pieces that can be moved around in certain ways on the field, it doesn't play like a card game, and it's not on the computer....

Essentially even though it's on a paper map, if it looks like a board game, smells like a board game, and even quacks like a board game, then it's a board game.....

Had to quit in the middle b/c he became bored w/ it but it's easy to pick up where we left off after writing down where our pieces where. Hex numbers are a blessing. Now if only I can figure out a system of adding in modifiers to the target numbers on the idea is to use a calculator and just almost memorise the movement/terraign modifier table and think "Okay, he's moving at this type of movement, I'm at that type of movement, here's here, I'm there, we have this stuff between us..." and just add it all in the calc....

I would do MW as a board game but the problem is that I don't have any blank hex sheets and absolutely no inspiration to draw out any rough top down maps of building interiors and outside places.

Ought to quit the 187 chat in a few minutes and concentrate on getting my Seventh Order post out. I need to get it out...wounder why no one came to chat today? I guess part of it was that Yahoogroups was down for a while....
