Keeping with tradition...

Stupid bigots!

Some of you may think what you will of "reality" TV...and I know that some of you on my list compare the Survivor shows to the moon landing footage (ie: some people think the moon landing in '69 was staged as well), but still understand my rant...

Last season of Survivor, they had Shii Ann, the first Asian lady/person ever to compete on the show....she was double crossed and voted out about in the middle of the season...and I got ticked off enough to wait until the person, no...THING responsible was voted off before I quit watching for the rest of the season...

(Anyone want to also believe what I do that the reason Shii Ann was voted out was because she was Asian???)

Well this current season my first favorite happened to be the first disabled lady/person to ever compete....specifically the first deaf lady/person to ever compete...

Stupid bigots....I'm glad Christy got further than Shii Ann did but I'm still mad.

Since this happened so close to the end, though, I am not going to wait until the BITCH RESPONSIBLE (and yes I know it's a gal responsible this time too) gets voted off.

I am not going to watch the rest of this season either....

Maybe I ought to try and get on there...so I can 1) see for myself if it is scripted and staged and 2) get further than Shii Ann or Christy ever got and even though I'm not Asian, I can at least prove that someone disabled CAN win that damned thing!

We never had a disabled person on Survivor...just a bunch of posers and on the first 'series' there was this girl who kept stealing food from the camera mens' tents!

I think Big Brother is better, this year the winner won because she was blonde and prety and appealled to all the guys...oh well. But the year before this gay guy called Brian won, he was lovely! hehe.

Now we've got 'Get me Out Of Here I'm a Celebrity', where c-class celebrity's are in the jungle a bit like survivor but it's really tragic to watch!

hi a saw you on the anime community and i'm a huge survivor fan so i have to jump into this discussion. I must say though i disagree with you in some parts, but am totally on your side in others.

Jenna and Rob are responsible for Christy getting voted out. I hope Jenna's eyebrows burn off in next weeks fire for that. Christy was my favorite! I don't think she got voted off for being deaf though, i mean if that was the case she would have been gone a long time ago. She got voted off because she threw her weight around thinking she was the swing vote. This scared Rob and (God knows how) he coaxed Jenna and Heidi back on his side. God those two girls make me want to shave their heads, but they'll get whats coming to them. I have the same thoughts on Shii Ann as well. She was a totally cool chick, but she took a chance on the tribe being a merge; she even said so.

Don't stop watching! Its so nice to have someone to have discussions about the show with! Root for Matt with me! ^_^

the "moon landing" reason versus the other reasoning...
okay there's two ways I can look at this since after a few years watching Survivor and Big Brother and the Amazing Race....

the first is what I now call the "moon landing" vein...

If the show really is scripted and staged and having the producers at least "give a nudge" or at most tell each person what to say and what to do and when and how to do it, then the reason is more likely the same probable reason that I lost my lift service here in the "good" ole "disabled services loving" state of Oklahoma...

That reason is that the producers and more likely the PUBLIC would LOOOOVE to see the disabled person go first because no matter how friendly and open people in general are toward the disabled, they'd much more likely want the "perfect" good looking, shapely person to stay... Look how many disabled people are there on TV.... Yes, provided that the lot of disabled people are too severe to make it on TV and can't even act much less keep from wetting their pants but heck, out of all the ones that are born disabled, we only saw like Chris Burke from "Life Goes On" on television? and how many times have we seen HIM since that show ran its course? Only like on a handfull of TV movies and an equal handful of "Touched By An Angel" episodes.

And Christopher Reeves hardly ever counts since the only thing disabled about him is that he fell off a friggen horse and can't even swallow. He's almost as bad off as astronomer Stephen Hawking but not as bad because he can talk and it would take ages for Mr Hawking to construct a sentence w/ his computer.

The other reason, assuming that "reality" TV isn't scripted and staged, is that not only was Rob and Jenna scared of Christy going around saying "I'm the swing vote I have the power" but also because 1) both Jenna and Heidi love to be allied with filthy cruel normbirths and 2) filthy normbirths like Rob can't tolerate what they consider freaks...

My favorite proverb is: "Which is the freak? The 'freak' or the freak that calls the 'freak' a 'freak'?"

I am not going to root for no guy that isn't born with a disability...since I've been unfairly terminated from my last job back on 11/2/97, I would love to see all guys like them burn in hell...the world would be better off without their cruelty, or their genetic instability.

If it sounds like I'm genocidal...I'm leaning in that direction. I used to be that way up until 9/11 and tried to foreswear (or whatever the term is for walking away from something) being genocidal but some recent events in my life are making me change my mind right back.

Disabled men, and most "normal" and mild disabled women rule... The rest are just defects....

Re: the "moon landing" reason versus the other reasoning...
wow, um did i offend you? I just wanted to talk about Survivor, even if its fake it's still entertaining dramatics.
I guess I'll stay out then, sorry to bother you.

Re: the "moon landing" reason versus the other reasoning...
oops no you didn't offend me at all or anything...

I get too carried away with being ticked off at injustices, real or perceived, that's all. Especially when certain people say one thing and end up doing another like now I know that OK isn't really that friendly to the disabled even though they wear a flimsy "mask" of following ADA laws. When we have state budget crises like we have one now, one of the first funds to get cut is to services for the disabled. This is also, I think, why it's so hard for me to get or change jobs unless there's someone I know that's in the right spot that would get me in...and out of all the places i've been in or worked in, I've only seen at least one disabled person and only then once in a while. The most I've ever seen are in the workshops and institutions.

In that light, so far, I'm tempted to try and take everyone I care about out of Oklahoma...possibly to Missouri which I've heard treates the disabled better...and try and convince Mr Kim over in N Korea to turn the entire state of Oklahoma into one giant geiger ticking glow worm nightlight, if you know what I mean...

Re: the "moon landing" reason versus the other reasoning...
I used to have a shrink during the last half of my senior year because I made one too many suicidal threats....he made that diagnosis and in the records he did put that he made it because he thought I confused fiction and reality while according to me, I just overdo comparisons between certain books and real life....and over-compare books to each other....

Like I could point out comparisons between "Brave New World" and "1984" and the comparisons of both to the current situation in USA over this prowar/patriotism/anti-war/anti-patriotism thing and sometimes I'd think "What if real life isn't really real and we are actually in The Matrix only it doesn't look like what it is in the movie because The Matrix lets us think we know what it's like in order to further trick us...??"

and like the thing says...I am super paranoid. I can take several itty bitty things I see or think I see or experience and add them all up in my head and then think the worst of them all...if you go futher back in my journal you'd see...especially the recent parts about work which detail the upcoming evaluation, the Gatesway thing, and I think I even mentioned the Jessica Kackley/single mother thing... It's partly because of this that I am afraid to go to my boss and say something like "Hey if we're having labor problems and having me hover at about 20-21 hours a week then how about this... Mon-Fri 10:30-2:30 like we used to ages ago??"

I'm still at this ridiculous thing where it's now Mon 10:30-2:30, Tuesday 10:30-3, Wed 10:30-2, Thurs and Friday 10:30-3 where before they hired Jessica the single mom, I was clocking off the same time every day at either 3 or 3:30 except for school night where I clock off at 2:30...

Re: the "moon landing" reason versus the other reasoning...
I messed up and meant that I ought to convince Mr Kim to turn Oklahoma into one giant nightlight for the state's sin of cutting services to the disabled in a financial crisis...
